The Ultimate End of Lease Cleaning Checklist
Posted 2 June 2026
A room-by-room end of lease cleaning checklist for Newcastle renters. Cover everything agents inspect, from the oven to the window tracks, and protect your bond.
A good end of lease cleaning checklist is the difference between getting your full bond back and arguing over deductions weeks after you have moved. Agents inspect against a known standard, so if you clean to that same standard, there is nothing to flag. Here is the room-by-room checklist we use on every job in Newcastle, so you can work through it yourself or hand it to a professional.
How to use this end of lease cleaning checklist
Work top to bottom in every room, leaving floors until last so you are not re-dirtying clean surfaces. Empty the property completely first, including the garage, balcony and garden, because agents check those too. Tick off each item as you go and take dated photos at the end as evidence.
If you want the certainty of a guaranteed result, our end of lease cleaning service works to exactly this checklist and backs it with a bond-back guarantee.
Kitchen
The kitchen is where most bonds are won or lost. Grease and food residue are the most commonly flagged issues, so this section needs real elbow grease.
- Oven cleaned inside, including racks, trays and the door glass
- Cooktop and rangehood degreased, filters cleaned or replaced
- Cupboards and drawers wiped inside and out, handles included
- Splashback, sink and benchtops cleaned and polished
- Dishwasher filter cleaned, seals wiped
- Floor swept and mopped, including under the kickboards
Bathrooms and laundry
Bathrooms are scrutinised hard. Soap scum, mould and limescale all get marked.
- Shower screen, tiles and grout cleaned back to a fresh finish
- Toilet cleaned inside and out, including the base and hinges
- Vanity, mirror and tapware polished, no water spots
- Exhaust fan dusted, drains clear
- Washing machine recess and laundry tub cleaned
Living areas and bedrooms
- Walls spot-cleaned for scuffs and marks, light switches wiped
- Skirting boards, door frames and doors dusted and wiped
- Cobwebs removed from corners and ceilings
- Wardrobes and built-ins wiped inside, mirrored doors cleaned
- Air conditioner filters cleaned, vents dusted
- Light fittings dusted, blinds and curtains cleaned
Windows, floors and outside
- Interior and accessible exterior glass cleaned, streak-free
- Window tracks, runners and flyscreens cleared of grime
- Carpets vacuumed, then professionally steam cleaned if your lease requires it
- Hard floors vacuumed and mopped
- Garage swept, oil stains treated where possible
- Balcony, courtyard and entry swept, bins cleaned out
Do not forget the lease requirements
Many NSW leases specifically require a professional carpet clean, and sometimes pest control, before you hand back the keys. Skipping these is an easy way to lose part of your bond, so check your agreement and keep any receipts. Wondering what all this costs to outsource? When to call in a professional
If the property is large, you are short on time, or you simply want the result guaranteed, a professional clean is usually cheaper than the bond you risk losing.
